Tip #1: Shares Have the Most Value

All of my highest viewed Reels, which got tens of millions of views, received high amounts of shares.

Reels where I share resources typically do the best because they get lots of shares.

On the other hand, comments and likes aren’t as crucial. Reels with many shares usually end up getting more views.

Consider creating Reels where you share free resources in your niche, such as “8 YouTube channels for your niche” like “8 YouTube channels to learn copywriting” or “The 8 Best Fitness YouTubers.”

Tip #2: Look at What’s Working in Your Niche

The easiest way to know the type of content that’s working in your niche is to look at the Reels getting lots of views for your competitors. Creating Reels based on currently popular topics increases your chances of getting good views. Remember, Instagram trends move quickly, so focus on topics that are trending now, not ones that were viral weeks ago.

Tip #3: Maintain Consistency in Your Content

If you try to go viral with different types of content, you might get followers from varied types of Reels, which can lead to inconsistent views. Instead, find a type of Reel that works well for you and stick to it. For example, the account @fori consistently posts AI voice-over videos with proven topics, resulting in consistently good views.

Tip #4: Start with Reels and Add Carousels Later

New accounts should focus on Reels since they get more traction. Once you reach about 5,000 followers, start experimenting with carousels, making sure they start with a powerful hook and deliver on it throughout the slides. Converting viral Reels into carousels can also work well.

Tip #5: Double Down on Your Winners

Initially, most of your Reels might not perform well, but keep posting content that has a good chance of going viral. When a Reel does go viral, create more content similar to it. Only change your content strategy when the viral content stops working.

Tip #6: End the Reel Quickly

Keep your Reels concise and to the point. Shares, watch duration, and watch percentage matter, so don’t include unnecessary information. Deliver on the hook and end the Reel promptly to prevent viewers from scrolling away before it finishes.

Tip #7: The Hook is Extremely Important

The hook is the promise at the start of the Reel that tells viewers what to expect. For example, “Replace a 4-year college degree with these eight TED Talks” was the hook for my best Reel, which got 15.5 million views. Always be on the lookout for viral hooks in your niche to use in your Reels.

Tip #8: Focus on Getting Customers, Not Just Going Viral

It’s more important to attract the right followers for your business than to go viral. Well-targeted Reels with fewer views can outperform high-view Reels with poor targeting. Always ask yourself if a Reel will bring in the right people for your business.
