My best friend’s business failed.

Five years ago, we had both just graduated from university. But whilst I chose the content route, he chose to create a drop shipping store.

It was a series of unfortunate events since.

He had to spend time finding suppliers, dealing with unhappy customers since he was just drop shipping low quality stuff from China and he also had to figure out the advertising.

In a conversation recently, he said that he stopped doing it pretty soon after he had started.

Is this you?

  • I want to convert subscribers to a paid offering

  • I want to package my best ideas into a product

  • I want to learn how to TEACH the things I know really well

And honestly?

I think it’s a good thing.

Knowing when a business is not right for you is important and it is important to know when to cut it out.

But, here’s the thing that concerned me.

He told me that he is still not done.

Why?

Because he’s not having fun.

It’s great to be persistent. But, it is not the persistence that really matters.

The whole goal should be to build a business that creates the life that you want.

Otherwise, you may as well just get a day job.

You will be at your best when your interests are aligned with your business model and strategy.

I learned (and still am learning) this lesson the hard way, after my own content websites, that I had no interest in, ended up failing.

Now I have realised that the best business for me is one where I just have to create content around topics that I find interesting, direct the audience to an email list then monetize the email list.

The parts of your business that you enjoy are likely ones where you should double down.

And you should be looking for solutions and alternatives to the part that you don’t like.

If you’re looking to do the same and build a digital product business through Instagram, you might want to check out the Digital Creator 2.0 course.

It’s all about finding what you enjoy and turning it into a successful business.
